Two proposals for the same opening need not describe the same window or the same work. The width and height are only a starting point. To understand a price difference, compare what each company proposes for that opening.
Compare the complete window
Look at the frame material and system, glass and how the window opens. One proposal may include a fixed pane; another may include an opening section. Ask each company to show the design on a drawing and name the product in writing.
Check colour, glass and fittings
A different inside or outside finish, glass choice, handle or hinge arrangement can change the price. Ask which choices are standard in the proposed product and which are additional. If a performance claim matters, request evidence for that particular window.
Look at the building work
Fitting an upstairs window above a conservatory may need different access from a ground-floor window. Removal, disposal and repairs to plaster or render can also differ. Compare the same access and making-good work before deciding one quote costs more for the same thing.
Check what the total includes
Ask whether each quote includes delivery, fitting, VAT and any separate work. Look at payment stages and estimated lead time. A starting price or supply-only total is not directly comparable with a fitted price.
Use the same information to get estimates
Send labelled photos, rough inside measurements, a note of how you want each window to open and your postcode. We can prepare an initial estimate. If you accept it, the final survey checks the detail before the order is confirmed. Keep any later changes in writing. Read how we quote for the steps between an initial estimate and final survey.
Questions
Does a higher price always mean a better window?
No. First check whether the products and fitting work are actually comparable.
Can glass alone change the total?
It can. Ask what glass is included, why a different option is proposed and what evidence supports its benefit.
Why might the final price differ from the initial estimate?
The survey can reveal details not clear from photos or rough measurements. Ask for any change to the specification and price in writing before confirming the order.
Send the same labelled photos and approximate sizes when requesting comparable options.
