Wide openings - bifold, sliding or lift and slide?

The quote should name the system, threshold, drainage and making good - not just “patio doors”.

Bifolds maximise the clear opening when leaves stack to the side. Sliders keep a simpler track and often suit value-led extensions. Lift and slide carries larger, heavier panels with controlled movement.

Traffic doors, fixed panels, internal floor levels and furniture clearance all belong in the comparison before you order.

Door replacement FAQs

Door questions

Common first questions on replacement doors.

Door FAQs.

01What is a composite door?

It describes a slab built from several materials - often a foam core with GRP or similar skins - to combine stability, insulation and a finished exterior. It is not the same as solid timber.

02Bifold or sliding doors?

Bifolds fold to the side for a wider clear opening; sliders use a simpler track and often leave part of the opening fixed. Lift and slide suits larger, heavier panels. The room layout and furniture clearance decide.

03Is Crittall-style the same as steel?

Crittall-style describes a grid look. Real steel, thermally broken steel and aluminium steel-look systems behave differently - the quote must name the actual system and use (heated exterior vs interior).

04Can you quote doors from photographs?

Yes for a first written price. The survey then confirms manufacture sizes, thresholds, drainage and any structural notes before order.
