Composite and uPVC front doors offer different ways to design your entrance. Compare the complete options proposed for your home: the door, its frame, glass and fittings. Portico is our main composite door supplier; we can discuss its available designs alongside our uPVC options.
Understand the construction
Composite doors combine materials within the opening door. The core and outer finish vary by range. A uPVC door has uPVC framing with solid panels, glass or both. Ask for the exact product name and specification rather than relying on a material label.
Compare the whole entrance
Consider the door and frame together. Check the colour outside, the finish inside and how any side panels will look. Glass changes the appearance and the light entering your hallway; compare its position and pattern if privacy matters.
Discuss glass and security separately
Ask which glass is included in the door and side panels. For security, ask what evidence covers the complete door and frame proposed for you. Check the included lock, handle and hinges. If your insurer has given you a requirement, share its wording before agreeing a design.
Plan the opening and threshold
The quote should show which way the door opens and where the handle sits. The threshold is the bottom part of the frame you step over. Discuss it with the floor and outside levels, especially if access is a concern.
Compare fitting and care on the same basis
Compare proposals for the same opening and fitting work. Check removal of the old door, agreed work around the opening, VAT and the expected timing. Ask for care instructions and warranty terms for each proposed product.
Explore a Portico design
Our online designer lets you explore a Portico look for your entrance. Send us a picture or reference for your chosen design when requesting an estimate. You can also send photos and rough measurements without using the designer.
Questions
Are composite doors always more secure?
No material name proves how a particular door performs. Compare evidence for the complete proposed door and frame.
Are uPVC doors always cheaper?
Prices depend on the design, dimensions, specification and fitting work. Compare written proposals for your entrance.
Can I keep my existing side panels?
Show them in your photos. Their condition and compatibility with the proposed door must be considered before the order is confirmed.
Send photos of your entrance, approximate measurements and your postcode. Include any Portico design you have chosen. We prepare an initial estimate; the final survey follows after you accept it.
