Internal or external
Steel windows: internal screen, external window or door set?
Cold-formed internal steel is not interchangeable with thermally broken external steel - the quote must say which you are buying.
We use measured elevations so every fixed pane, opening leaf and bar is drawn before pricing. For the familiar black-grid search term, our Crittall-style guide explains four construction tiers without implying brand affiliation.
- Hot-rolled internal partitions and screens
- Thermally broken external windows and doors
- Corner construction and sightline categories on the quote
- Finish, glass and installation scope matched across alternatives

Honest alternatives
Real steel or steel-look aluminium?
Steel-look aluminium uses mechanically joined frames in a different price band. Both can share a grid layout - the quote should name material, thermal break and corner detail.
Our steel section covers doors and internal work as well as external windows.

Performance and compliance
Steel window thermal break, weathering and security
External steel must be specified for the heated envelope - never assume a photograph shows the right construction.
Thermal break
External routes use broken profiles; internal steel skips the break by design.
Hardware and locking
Door and window hardware is chosen for the opening type and usage.
Glass specification
Acoustic, safety and solar control glass are agreed on the itemised quote.
Final specification is confirmed on survey and written on the itemised quote.

Steel window FAQs.
01Do you supply Crittall-branded windows?
We are not affiliated with Crittall Windows Ltd. We supply real steel and steel-look alternatives and use “Crittall-style” only to describe a familiar slim-grid appearance.
02Can I use internal steel outside?
No. Internal hot-rolled steel is for heated-room partitions and similar roles. External openings need a thermally broken system rated for weather and heat loss.
03What are steel windows?
Slim-framed windows, often in a grid. Real steel and steel-look aluminium are different products - the quote names which route you are buying.
04How much do steel windows cost?
There is no single price per square metre. Cold internal steel, thermally broken external steel and steel-look aluminium are quoted as separate routes.
05Can you quote without visiting?
Yes. Send outside photographs, rough sizes and the number of openings for a first written price. The survey then confirms manufacture sizes, access, cills, glass and finishing details before anything is ordered.
