Real steel vs steel-look: corners, sightlines and heat
A photograph cannot show whether a frame is thermally broken - the quote must.
Ask how corners are made, what the junction measures and whether the opening is heated. Heritage-bar uPVC is a fourth route for budget-led grids.

Comparison FAQs
Questions
Steel specification questions before you order.
Steel FAQs.
01Is real steel always more expensive?
Usually yes on the same opening, but sightline targets and thermal requirements matter. Price both routes on one drawing when unsure.
02What is the difference between real steel and steel-look aluminium?
Real steel is a welded metal frame. Steel-look aluminium uses an aluminium system to get a similar grid, usually with a thermal break built in.
03Which should I choose for an external wall?
A heated external opening needs a thermal break. That can be thermally broken steel or steel-look aluminium. Internal cold steel stays inside.
04Which has the slimmer sightline?
Real steel can be slimmer. Aluminium steel-look sections are usually a little deeper. Compare the drawn sightline, not a brochure photo.
05Can you quote without visiting?
Yes. Send outside photographs, rough sizes and the number of openings for a first written price. The survey then confirms manufacture sizes, access, thresholds and finishing details before anything is ordered.
