Living room with large windows along one wall

A window quote is easier to compare when it shows what will be supplied and fitted for each opening. One unexplained total leaves too many questions. Start with a written list of the windows, then compare the same scope across proposals.

Start with an opening-by-opening list

Give each window a room label. The proposal should show its approximate size, opening direction and which panes open or stay fixed. Ask for a drawing where the layout is hard to describe. Mark any changes from the existing windows.

Name the proposed product

Look for the frame material and system, inside and outside finishes, glass and visible fittings such as handles. If a particular noise, privacy, safety or heat-loss feature matters to you, ask what evidence applies to the proposed design. Ventilation should be considered for the home, not treated as an afterthought.

Check the fitting work

Ask whether the price includes removal and disposal of old frames, fitting, sealing and agreed work around the opening. Note anything that may need separate work, such as difficult access or a floor, wall or external finish. Each company should price the same tasks before you compare totals. For example, one quote might include removal of the old frame and repairs to the surrounding plaster, while another excludes those repairs. Those totals do not cover the same work.

Check money and timing

Confirm whether VAT is included. Look for the payment stages, what the price excludes and an estimated lead time. Ask what happens if the specification changes after the final survey. Read the warranty and care documents for the named products.

Know which stage you are at

Windows4You can prepare an initial estimate from clear photos, rough inside measurements and your postcode. You can review the options before arranging a final survey. After you accept the estimate, the survey checks the dimensions and fitting details needed to confirm the order. Keep the final written specification and agreed price together. Read how we quote if you want to see the steps before the final survey.

Questions

Can I receive an estimate from photos?

Yes. Photos and approximate measurements can support an initial estimate. They do not replace the final survey for manufacturing and fitting details.

Does the lowest total mean the same work?

Not necessarily. Compare the product, glass, finish, VAT and fitting work line by line.

What if the survey changes a detail?

Ask for the revised specification and any price change in writing before confirming the order.

Send labelled photos, rough inside measurements and your postcode.
