Door care starts with knowing which product and finish you have. Keep the instructions supplied with the door, frame, glass and fittings together. Follow those instructions when choosing cleaning products or arranging maintenance.
Identify the material and finish
Check the order documents for the model and finish. A painted timber surface, a composite door face and a uPVC frame may need different care. If you cannot identify them, ask the supplier before treating a stain or damaged area.
uPVC doors and frames
Use the care guide for the actual profile and finish, including any decorative foil. Follow its cleaning method and avoid experimenting with solvents or abrasive pads. Ask for advice about a stubborn mark rather than using a stronger product by guesswork.
Composite doors
Follow the guide for the selected composite model and outer finish. The door face, frame and hardware may have separate instructions. Portico is Windows4You's main composite supplier; instructions for an older door from another range may differ.
Aluminium doors
Check the specified coating or surface treatment before choosing a cleaner. Follow its care schedule, including any guidance related to exposure. Aluminium doors still need appropriate cleaning and checks of seals and moving parts.
Timber doors
Follow the coating supplier's guidance on cleaning, inspection and any future refinishing. Photograph peeling, cracks or exposed timber and seek advice before sanding, stripping or recoating. The correct work depends on the finish and its condition.
Handles, locks and seals
Follow the instructions for the fitted components. Use only the products and maintenance points specified for them. If the door becomes difficult to close or lock, seek advice rather than forcing it or adjusting the hinges by guesswork.
Keep a record of a problem
Take clear photos and note when the issue appeared. For a door supplied by Windows4You, use the contact details in your order or handover documents. For a door supplied elsewhere, contact that supplier. Keep the product details and warranty information available.
Questions
Can I use one cleaner on every part?
Follow the instructions for each surface and component. A cleaner suitable for glass may not be suitable for the frame or door finish.
Should I lubricate every lock in the same way?
No. Use the instructions for the fitted lock and hardware, including the specified product and application points.
Does a difficult lock mean the door needs replacing?
Seek an assessment of the problem before deciding what work is needed. Avoid forcing the mechanism.
Find the care guide and warranty information supplied with your door. If something is unclear, contact the supplier with the model details and clear photos.
